Topic: Scaling Up a Commercial Operation
Ron Glave started beekeeping in 2013 as a hobbyist beekeeper with a handful of back yard hives in Revelstoke BC. With a passion for teaching, Ron was quick to share his learning experience with youth and other aspiring beekeepers in the community through social media and in person while developing his beekeeping skills. In 2019 Ron paid attention to the many positives from his 5-year beekeeping passion project, took the leap, and registered BeeKind Honey Bees (www.beekindhoneybees.ca) as a small commercial hybrid operation with a primary focus on stock (nuc) production, and a growing focus on honey production. This is in addition to Ron’s full-time career in construction management for the past 16 years.
Currently Ron is looking at taking the next big leap, transitioning into full-time commercial beekeeping in 2023, growing all aspects of his operation with dedicated equipment for honey production, mated queens, and nuc production, and increasing to 350+ managed colonies.
